Istanbul Kuleli Military School

It is located in Uskudar District near the Bosphorus Strait. In order to train the military officials, it was established in 1845 September, 21st. During the time of Ottoman- Russian War between the years of 1877 and 1878, the school was transferred to the Harbiye quarter. When the war ends, everything returned to its original place. When a war broke out between 1912 and 1913 in the Balkans, Kuleli served to the Ottoman Armed Forces as a military hospital for the treatment of the wounded soldiers.
After the defeat of Ottoman Empire in First World War, the British High Command demanded the evacuation of Kuleli Military School so that they use it for themselves and the Ottoman Administration did as they wanted. When Istanbul was fully liberated from British forces on October 6th, 1923, the school was reopened. Because of the Second World War, Kuleli School was transferred from Istanbul to Konya for security. Afterwards, it was transferred back to Istanbul in 1947 as the war ended. In August 2016, the school was closed on account of its involvement to the military coup which happened in July 15th, 2016.
